Join us for a panel discussion organized by the DSI Democracy Community on "From Bots to Debates: AI's Influence on Public Dialogue," which will explore the impact of generative AI on public discourse.

As online platforms become increasingly important for public discourse, generative AI brings both risks, such as misinformation, and opportunities for improved moderation, sparking a discussion on its wider implications. Join us on November 28 from 17:00 to 18:00 for an interesting panel discussion with Dr. Angela Müller (Managing Director Algorithm Watch CH), Başak Yalman (University of Zurich, DSI AI & Law Community), Prof. Dr. Fabrizio Gilardi (University of Zurich) on “From Bots to Debates: AI’s influence on public dialogue”, moderated by Prof. Dr. Karsten Donnay (University of Zurich). The event will take place at the Digital Society Initiative, Rämistrasse 69, 8001 Zurich, Room SOC-E-010. Please register here.

See the abstract of the discussion below:
Online spaces, including social media and other digital platforms, have become critical venues for public discourse on a wide range of societal issues. The emergence of generative AI introduces both significant challenges and opportunities in this context. The primary challenges involve the potential for generative AI to facilitate the creation and dissemination of harmful content, including misinformation, hate speech, spam, and scams. These risks raise concerns about the integrity and safety of online discourse. However, generative AI also offers opportunities to enhance the detection and removal of such harmful content more efficiently. Additionally, AI-powered tools could automate the moderation of online discussions, potentially improving the quality and inclusivity of these dialogues. The panel discussion examines these issues from multiple perspectives, encompassing technical, legal, and socio-political dimensions.
